Who this trunk is for
Choose the PRO cut in velvet if you want a premium-feel fabric that’s neither matte nor hologram — a middle ground that reads rich under stage lighting and adds visual depth on camera without going full reflective. Velvet has a soft pile that catches light from one angle and absorbs it from another, creating natural shading and dimension that flat fabrics can’t produce.
Velvet is particularly effective for darker skin tones, where the black-on-black contrast between the velvet and the body reads cleaner than glossy or hologram fabrics tend to.
The three classic physique cuts we make
We make three cuts of classic physique trunks. Each is built to NPC and IFBB classic physique stage rules. They differ in how aggressive the silhouette is.
- Regular cut: Traditional classic physique silhouette. More side coverage. The conservative stage-standard fit.
- PRO cut (this trunk): Narrower side seam and higher leg opening than regular. More glute and upper-thigh exposure.
- Custom PRO Cut: Our most aggressive classic physique cut. Narrower at the side seam and higher leg opening than PRO, for maximum thigh, glute, and quad exposure within NPC and IFBB rules. Made to order.
Compare PRO cut fabrics
All three of our in-stock PRO cut trunks use the same PRO cut — they differ in fabric:
- Hologram ($49.95): Standard hologram. Maximum stage-light pop at the standard price.
- Velvet (this trunk, $59.95): Rich texture that catches light softly. Excellent contrast with darker skin tones.
- Limited Edition Hologram ($59.95): Premium hologram fabric from a specific production run. Deeper, more consistent reflectivity.
Sizing
Measure your waist at the hip-bone level.
- Small: 28–30″ waist
- Medium: 32–34″ waist (typical 175–205 lb competitor)
- Large: 36–38″ waist
Note: the PRO cut runs a touch more revealing than the regular cut at the same waist size — there is less side coverage. If you’re between sizes or new to the PRO cut, call us at 727-784-0844 before ordering.
Frequently asked questions
Do these meet NPC and IFBB classic physique guidelines?
Yes. The PRO cut is built to meet current NPC and IFBB Classic Physique coverage requirements. If you compete in a federation outside NPC/IFBB, call us before ordering so we can confirm fit to that federation’s specific rules.
Why velvet instead of matte lycra or hologram?
Velvet sits between matte and hologram on the visual scale. Matte lycra reads completely flat under stage lights; hologram bounces light aggressively in every direction. Velvet has a pile that creates subtle shading — it picks up highlights on one side and shadow on the other as you move through poses, adding dimension that flat fabrics don’t produce. The trade-off is that velvet is more delicate and requires more careful handling.
What’s the difference between regular cut, PRO cut, and Custom PRO Cut?
Three tiers of classic physique cut, each more aggressive than the last. Regular cut is the traditional silhouette with more side coverage — most popular with first-time and amateur competitors. PRO cut (this trunk) is narrower on the side with a higher leg opening for more glute and upper-thigh exposure — the cut most competitive classic physique athletes wear on stage. Custom PRO Cut is our most aggressive cut, narrower than PRO at the side seam with a higher leg opening, for maximum exposure within the rules — made to order for experienced competitors at national and pro shows.
How fast do you ship?
Most in-stock men’s trunks ship same-day or next business day from Clearwater, Florida. If you have a show in less than a week, call us at 727-784-0844 before ordering and we’ll confirm what’s possible for your date.
How does velvet handle competition tan?
Velvet is less forgiving than matte lycra when it comes to tan transfer because the pile can hold pigment. Always apply your competition tan well in advance and confirm it is fully dry before putting on the trunk. If possible, do the final tan coat after the trunk is on, working around the suit edges.

Care
Hand wash in cold water with mild detergent. Velvet pile requires extra care: do not wring or twist, do not iron, and store flat or rolled — never folded — to prevent permanent crease marks in the pile. Lay flat to dry. Avoid contact with self-tanner before it has fully dried.
